yblive Summer 2009, 3,4,5 Learning Years
Speech and Language supports for 0-5’s
In September 2009 Sarah Brewer starts in her new role as the Speech and Language Therapist supporting the Ready, Steady, Grow; 3,4,5 Learning Years and the Write Minded Services. Sarah shares her enthusiasm for this new venture with yblive.
Hello, I`m Sarah Brewer and I am feeling very excited about what lies ahead. I was really drawn to this new position because of my enthusiasm for prevention and early intervention. youngballymun’s early years services for 0-5’s will provide a strong foundation for young children’s development and in my new post with youngballymun, I will have the opportunity to support parents/caregivers in promoting their children’s learning and wellbeing from the beginning of their child’s life.
I will be working with multi-disciplinary teams across three of youngballymun’s services. The Ready, Steady, Grow Service will be a very exciting new venture for families of Ballymun. The programme will support parenting and promote the child’s optimum development, fulfilling physical, emotional, communication and learning needs. Within the two other strands of the Ready, Steady, Grow Service, I will contribute towards antenatal support and infant mental health training in services within the community.
Then in the work with the 3, 4, 5 Learning Years Service, I am looking forward to working with staff in Early Years Services in Ballymun. It is an amazing opportunity to be part of evidenced-based programmes and to support language development with young children in creche’s and pre-schools and in other early year’s settings.
Finally, I will also be working with the Write Minded team to support their promotion of oral language with young children in junior infant classes in Ballymun. These prevention and early intervention strategies will set a strong basis for children’s later literacy skills.
I am due to start my new position in September 2009 and I`m very much looking forward to being part of youngballymun’s innovations. Joint working and commitment to these services between service providers and families will ensure a supportive environment to parents throughout the parenting process. It will also support and enhance future achievement, opportunities and outcomes for the children of Ballymun.
