What is Incredible Years?
Incredible Years – an integrated teacher, parent and child programme – is a school and home evidence-based programme proven to support positive emotional and social development in primary-school aged children and to address behaviour management.
The Incredible Years service is designed in collaboration with schools and community organisations and is delivered in partnership with Archways, the national promoter of Incredible Years in Ireland.
Incredible Years focuses on positive behaviour management that coaches children in sharing, building relationships, recognising and managing feelings, choosing appropriate behaviours and dealing with anger and conflict. The programme works both in school and home settings.
Incredible Years in Schools
The service is delivered in six primary schools in Ballymun – Holy Spirit Boys, St. Joseph’s Junior, St. Joseph's Senior, Virgin Mary Boys and Virgin Mary Girls and Gaelscoil Bhaile Munna. An Incredible Years schools coordinator was appointed in September 2008 in partnership with the Drumcondra Education Centre. School-based delivery is supported by trained staff in BEST – Ballymun Education Support Team and Whitehall School Completion Programme.
What’s been happening in schools….
Since September 2009 children from Junior and Senior Infant classes have been learning and having fun in Dina School. In Dina School children are introduced to Dina Dinosaur and her friends Wally, Molly and Tiny Turtle during lesson time. These puppets are integral teaching tools and children get a chance to learn skills like how to make friends, build confidence and enjoy being in school.
Dina School consists of 20-30 minute circle time lessons which incorporate the use of small group practice activities to promote key skills. Within the school context, these concepts can be usefully reinforced throughout the day.

The Incredible Years team has relocated along with Write Minded to the Ballymun Shopping Centre
CAFTA – Ballymun’s Community and Family Training Agency – is dedicated to the delivery of the parenting aspect of the service. CAFTA’s Incredible Years team is Elaine Fahy, Mary McHale, Cathy Kiernan and we would like to welcome Liz Johnston.
The Basic Parenting Programme is a universal programme for parents of children age 3-10 years. The programmes started on the 19th of January. We are running three courses; Tuesday is in the Holy Spirit Boys School, Wednesday and Thursday are both run in BRYR. We have twenty six parents attending the three courses. Everyone is really enjoying the courses.
